Leading Austrian auction house im Kinsky is set for its Contemporary Art sale on June 8, which features illustrious names such as Andy Warhol and Ai WeiWei.
Controversial Chinese artist Ai WeiWei is represented by two sculptures from his “Scales” series for the first time. The sculptures, exhibited at the Alexander Ochs Galleries, Berlin, in 2008, feature copper and steel panels that can be folded into furniture, in line with the theme “core elements of complex systems”.
The sale also includes a diptych by Gelitin, a group of Austrian artists, that refers to Picasso’s famous Guernica. A collage of different colours of plasticine creates a more provocative and humorous touch while inviting the viewer to look closer with its 3D details.
A work by the ZERO group artist Hans Bischoffshausen, the unusual Carinthian loner, is also going on auction. Bischoffshausen’s attempt to explore the asceticism of white is represented in this work from 1960.
