Agostino Bonalumi “Bianco”, 1966. everted canvas and tempera vinyl. Price est.: € 150.000 – 180.000 Cambi Aste

This work by Bonalumi is no doubt the highlight of the sale. The Italian genius painter, draughtsman and sculptor, Bonalumi exhibited his first works at the “Premio Nazionale Città di Vimercate” in 1948, when he was just thirteen years old. The everted canvas and vinyl on this piece creates a three dimensional surface, while exploring the asceticism of white.

Giuseppe Santomaso (1907-1990) "Sunday Workshop", 1953. Oil on canvas, 113x89 cm.

This abstract painting by Giuseppe Santomaso is an astonishing example of Italian modern art. Gieuseppe Santomaso was a frequent participator at the Venice Biennale and the winner of many awards including the Prize of the Municipality of Venice in 1948 and First Prize for Italian Painting in 1954. In 1940s he was the member of anti-fascist painter group “Fronte Nuovo delle Arti” where he tried to find a position between illustrative realism and pure abstraction. The artist had a tendency towards classical Modernism and was often compared to Braque and Léger. In 1950s his work began to show increasingly abstract compositions as seen in this painting.
