Thousands of bidders participated from all over the world to buy in the 650 lot sale, which lasted from 10 a.m. until after midnight. Held at The Four Seasons restaurant, hundreds were in attendance and bidders remained in the landmarked Grill Room and Pool Room bidding until the early hours of the following morning.
Richard Wright, director of the auction house, who personally directed the auction, said: “The response to this auction is a testament to the beloved icon that is the Four Seasons and to the owners, Alex von Bidder and Julian Niccolini, who have operated the restaurant for over 40 years. It was a pleasure to work with them and their team and an honor to hold this auction.”
The bronze sign above, from the lobby entrance, which we featured in our upcoming auction post sold for $ 120,000, after 10 minutes of active bidding, while the estimate was only $ 5,000-7,000. Another highlight we emphasized in our article was a pair of Barcelona Chairs by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, which sold for $21,250 while the estimate was only $ 5,000-7,000.
