Malachite and Cultured Pearl Brooch, Tony Duquette. Estimate $5,000–7,000. Sotheby’s

Do want! This week, the pearl and malachite brooch by Tony Duquette has us obsessed. It is among many other beautiful jewelry in the Tony Duquette auction at Sotheby’s, which runs until August 30th.

The American icon, Tony Duquette is renowned for his extravagant creations and designs that resemble starbursts, just as in this one. Sotheby’s chose the motto “More is more” for this auction, which quite summarizes Duquette’s style.

Duquette’s hallmark is flamboyant use of color and size. He makes big pieces. When you have one piece of these statement jewelry, you don’t need to wear anything else. This sizable brooch is about 11 cm by 9.5 cm, which makes it as big as an average palm, and imagining it on a scarf with bright reds and blues makes us think pure American elegance.
